A HOUSE OF DOSE, RITUAL AND FILIGREE.

Founded in London by designer Esther Guan (BEICHEN GUAN), DOSIS G6C is rooted in a family workshop practice spanning London and Guangzhou. Beginning with high jewellery, the house is gradually expanding into 18K gold jewellery, sterling silver pieces and, in time, collectible design objects.

DOSIS takes its name from “dose”: the precise measure that determines when a reaction begins. Working with existing elements drawn from nature, objects, structures and traditional craft, the house uses scale, density, deformation, materials and human intervention to bring these elements into reaction and transform them into new jewellery forms. What interests us is the chemistry that emerges from an encounter, and the new world it brings into being. A DOSIS design begins with something that already exists: a natural form, an object, a structure or an ancient craft.

A shell may still evoke a shell, yet no longer belong to its original natural world. A knot may remain recognisable while becoming a new structure. A chessboard may retain traces of its order, yet find its way onto the body through changes in scale and construction. This state of being familiar, yet no longer quite what it was, is a relationship DOSIS continually explores.

Filigree and metal engraving form the core of the house’s craft language. A graduate of Central Saint Martins, Esther studied traditional Chinese filigree under a master associated with the Palace Museum and travelled to Japan to study metal engraving. In human hands, ancient techniques are used anew, altered and reconstructed, retaining traces of the person who worked them. At DOSIS, filigree and engraving serve as instruments of reaction: ways of transforming materials and carrying existing elements into another world. This is what the house means by human intervention.

Nature does not become jewellery on its own, nor does traditional craft enter contemporary life unaided. Change happens when human hands, judgement, the body and everyday life enter the process. Jewellery becomes a small ritual between people and materials. Made by hand and worn on the body, it gradually acquires a life of its own through repeated wear.

Dose gives measure. Filigree gives form. Ritual begins the relationship.

DOSIS exists between worlds: where encounters spark a chemical reaction, and where a new world begins to take shape.
